About Me

Hi!  I'm Cindy Calenti and new to the blogging world... but definitely NOT new to the teaching world.  I started working in Early Childhood Education classrooms when I was in college 40 years ago... YIKES!  Who would have thought that I would still be in the classroom four decades later?  I currently teach Early Childhood Education at the college level in Tucson, Arizona.  Prior to that, I was the Department Chair for the Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program at the same college.
I'm really lucky. Along with teaching, I get to visit students and classrooms around the city.  I love so much of what I see and hope I can share some of those great ideas with all of you.
I just couldn't help naming my blog - "Granny Goes to School".   I knew my three grandchildren (Cade, Ella, and Lulu) would love that.  They are responsible for keeping me young, jumping in jumping castles, having water fights in the pool, and playing "Deal or No Deal" at Chucky Cheese Pizza.
I also really enjoy creating teaching materials for my daughter (who is also a teacher).  She shares many of the materials with her children's teachers and her teacher friends.  It's an ongoing circle of sharing ideas and sparking each others' creativity.
I have been married for almost 30 years.  I have four children and three grandchildren.  I love to swim, hike, bake, and create mosaics... and now I am adding blogging to the list.  Please join me in my new adventure!

  1. Hi Cindy! I saw the name of your blog from my friend Wendy's blog, Read With Me ABC. I had to check your blog out. I am getting my feet wet with blogging too. I have been teaching for 16 years, and technology has taken this profession farther than I ever thought possible. I just love the sharing and support that I see with blogging! No more closed doors for teachers! I have three young children, and I work full-time as a first grade teacher. I post when I have time, and I would love to make my blog more attractive, etc. That's a good goal to have. I will add you to the blogs I follow (the next time I get back onto my blog). I'm off to do a little lesson planning before bed!

  2. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Being a Grandmother is one of the greatest gifts we ever receive! In our quest to run in each of the states my husband and I travelled to Arizona in 2011. We spent time with family in Sierra Vista. Our dear family took us on a whirlwind tour of your state. We visited Tombstone, Colossal Cave, Phoenix, Casa Grande, Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, and my favorite - Sedona. Unfortunately, we were there during the wildfires that summer. Some places we visited during our first days were burned before we left and we even helped some people evacuate. Luckily, the fire did not reach the houses of any family although at times it was within half of a mile. I certainly learned to respect fire. I am still looking for a few teachers, especially some from your neck of the woods, to join my Winter Wonderland Exchange Project. If you know of anyone who would be interested please send them my way ~ firstgradecarousel.blogspot.com Thanks, Maria

    1. I love your blog. I am a grandma also and was in early childhood education for 32 years before becoming a special education/general education classroom. It makes me feel younger when teaching children and I hope to teach for another 10 years. I also live in Arizona. I have a home in Peoria, Az but am currently living with my dad in Lake Havasu City, AZ because of the recent death of my mom. I am also a newby in blogging. It sure does take some time to learn. I have created one freebie on my blog so far on nonsense words. Come check it out @ http://theteachinggramma.blogspot.com/
