Spring Chick Freebie

Here's a cute little "Spring chick" craft.  It's so easy and best of all it's a great way to review basic shapes.  This chick is made out of circles, half circles, triangles, and rectangles.

Step 1:  Copy the pattern sheet onto white card stock.  Note: Card stock really does work best for this project.
Click on the image to download the pattern page.

Step 2:  Cut out the pieces.

Step 3:  Glue the head to the body.

Step 4:  Glue on the wings (one on top of the body, one underneath).

Step 5:  Glue the legs on under the body.  Glue the two triangle beaks on the head (not pictured).

Step 6:  Mix equal parts white glue and water.  Have your students "paint" squares of yellow and orange tissue paper on the chick.  Note: I have the chick on resting on wax paper.  It helps protect the table.

Finally:  Have your students use a hole punch and black construction paper to make an eye.  Just lay it on the head.  The wet glue water will help it adhere.

The wings and feet curl slightly as they dry.  This makes each chick look like she is flapping her wings and running around.  Each chick looks different and adorable.

Enjoy
