Build - A - Turkey Bundle and a Freebie

I've started thinking about Thanksgiving and couldn't resist the temptation to make some turkey graphics.  I "dismembered" the turkeys (sorry about that!) so that I could have the option to mix and match and make a number of different turkey guys and gals.

A REALLY Fun Halloween Game and Freebie.

I was scouring Target and Michael's Craft stores for some last minute Halloween items.  I lucked out!  Michael's has all their Halloween items at 50% off.

I got these darling felt bags. 

They are perfect for Halloween fun and games.

Game Play:
The bags are filled with either A, B, C cards or high-frequency word cards.  The children pass around the bags and draw a card.  If they can read the card (or identify the letter) they get to keep the card.  If they can not, the card goes back in the bag.

There are 4 witch cards  in each Witch game, and 4 Frankie cards in each Frankie game.  If a child draws one of the witch cards, she holds it up and everyone in the class makes a witch face, witch hands, and cackles.

In the Frankie version, if a child draws a Frankie card,  he holds it up, and everyone stands up, puts their arms straight out, and stomps around like Frankenstein.

These games are fun and silly and full of Halloween spirit while engaging the children is critical letter and word review.

Freebie: Some Silly Fall Images and Frames (Black and White)

I needed some fall images and frames in black and white.  Couldn't find what I needed so...I  "doodled" a few this afternoon.  Feel free to grab them if you think you can use them.  I'd love a short comment, just so I know if they are being used.

Struggling Readers and a Freebie!

The little munchkins I'm tutoring are really struggling with CVC decoding.  They need practice, practice, and then more practice.  Unfortunately, my seven tutoring kiddos (yes, the number grows each week) come from VERY unfortunate circumstances.

Three of the seven are either in foster care or have been removed from their homes a variety of times.  The opportunity to practice reading with an adult at home is quite limited.  Their access to books at home is also quite limited. 

So.... I spent quite a bit of time looking for books just slightly above the beginning patterned book level. I wanted some thing that would:

• Provide practice decoding CVC words and word families 
• Provide practice reading high-frequency words in the context of sentences
• Provide something could be taken home and practiced independently 

This order was harder to fill than I expected.   So I created my own emergent reader and five follow up activities.  Because the reader is my own printable, I was able to give each child his own copy to take home and practice.
